Do you have a big idea? One that could bring you fame and fortune? Have you always dreamed of starting your own business and making it big– really big?
If any of those describe you, and you want to more than just dream about it, Charlotte Startup Weekend is the place for you. Our next event is Jan. 24-26, 2014. On Friday night after hearing from our keynote speakers, you’ll have a chance to pitch an idea to our attendees. After everyone has finished their pitches, the attendees vote on their favorite ideas. The top finishers advance to the main competition, with all attendees choosing which team they’d most like to work with. Our teams then go to work, trying to create a viable business in a single weekend. Sunday night, we’ll have a demo event with judges from the entrepreneurial and startup communities here in the Queen City. Our winner will get a prize package and mentorship designed to help them make their idea into Charlotte’s best new startup!
Don’t get me wrong, building a business is very hard. That’s why we’re teaming with business support organizations like the BIG Council and the Ben Craig Center. They can teach you everything you don’t know about running a business, and can help make valuable connections as well as providing you with meaningful learning experiences.
That’s not all! You don’t have to have to be a for-profit to compete. If you simply have an idea that could make the world better, come and pitch! Our partner Queen City Forward supports social entrepreneurship here, and a team that proceeds to the main competition may be eligible for a membership in QCF.
In addition to the education, though, you have a chance to connect to an entrepreneurial community in Charlotte that is really entering the mainstream. There’s a tremendous amount of energy in Charlotte startups of all kinds, and we’d love for you to come play a part. We attract very dynamic and skilled competitors from a wide array of skill sets and experiences. The people that you meet will be connections far beyond the weekend.
