I’m Jim Van Fleet, and I’m co-organizing Charlotte Startup Weekend 3, from Nov 4-6. The event will be held at Packard Place in Uptown Charlotte. It represents a chance for entrepreneurs, software developers, marketers, designers (and more) together for a weekend of building products and as well as the Startup community here in Charlotte.
What is Startup Weekend?
Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable.
Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing Lean Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.
You can read much more about the weekend’s high points on the Startup Weekend website.
I’m not convinced– is Charlotte really a startup city?
Yes, it is. With your participation, it can be even more so. Startup Weekend is an international program that has been going on for many years, and our last event was one of the most highly rated in the history of the program. We want to make our event in November even better.
Of the startups that he judged at the last event, Paul Wettenhall, President of the Ben Craig Center, and one of the pillars of the business support community in Charlotte, had this to say:
Startup Weekend attracts high caliber participants who arrive with promising ideas and work intensely to turn them into real business opportunities. As a judge at the last Weekend, it was remarkable that each team’s product was worth moving forward following the weekend.
Terry Cox, Founder of BIG Council, another of the judges and a fixture in Charlotte’s startup scene, added:
Startup Weekend offers a great support structure to launch a new idea as well as a close knit community to help the new ventures continue their progress.
That’s what Charlotte Startup Weekend is about. Getting to know each other, working on exciting projects, and getting acquainted with the resources and community that are already here in Charlotte. Come be a part of it!
How can I get involved?
You can participate as an attendee or as a sponsor.
Attendees will participate and be given the chance to join a team (or to lead one!) Register for Charlotte Startup Weekend 3 now!
Sponsors will have the opportunity to showcase their business for the attendees in the room, as well as the chance to observe the proceedings. An upcoming post will outline how sponsors from our event in May acquired prototypes and team members from the teams at Charlotte Startup Weekend.
Sponsors can email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information, or sponsor us directly at Startup Weekend.
Thanks, and look for more announcements (and some quotes from past participants) here soon!
